NEWKIRK — An attorney status review is scheduled in Kay County District Court for a Tonkawa contractor accused of embezzlement.

Braden Kial Johnson, 31, Tonkawa, is accused of accepting a payment of $47,000 to be used to build a barn.

The alleged victims report in the affidavit that Johnson said the concrete slab would be poured by March 17, but it was not completed until April 27. The slab reportedly needed multiple repairs.

Braden reportedly was given two payments totaling $47,000. But the materials never showed up.

The alleged victims reportedly had to hire other contractors to do the project and report that Johnson owed them $23,000 for unpaid services.

Johnson was arrested and booked in the jail with bond set at $10,000.

He is free on bond.
