Sheriff warns of ONG phone scam
April 28, 2019 | PoliceNEWKIRK — Kay County Sheriff Steve Kelley is warning citizens about another phone scam that references gas bills.
“The caller is stating you are behind or delinquent on a natural gas bill and advises that if you don’t pay your bill your gas will be shut off,” said Kelley.
“The callers may request your account information over the phone to pay the bill or ask you to call another number they give you.”
Kelley said the number that has been showing up on caller ID is the actual Oklahoma Natural Gas phone number.
“Be aware and never give your banking information to anyone over the phone until you have at least verified by contacting the appropriate company.”
Kelley said those with questions or concerns about this scam or others can call his department at 580-362-3250.
