Former Sonic manager faces embezzlement
April 28, 2019 | Courts|HeadlinesNEWKIRK — A former manager at a Ponca City Sonic is scheduled to appear in Kay County District Court on May 17 on a felony charge of embezzlement.
Matthew Dean Clayton Rose, 29, Ponca City is accused of embezzling $7,068.37 from the Sonic located at 2603 North 14th Street.
Ponca City police officer Justin Hinch reports in the affidavit that security footage shows Rose taking money out of the till and clinching it in his right hand before putting it in his pocket.
Sonic management reportedly told police that Rose would sit at a register and take money from carhops.
Authorities believe Rose would take the money, cancel the order for the total amount, and pocket the cash.
Hinch reports research shows a total 568 cancelled transactions beginning in August totaling $7,068.37.
Rose was terminated on Nov. 4. He was charged on Feb. 25 and arrested on March 4. He is free on $10,000 bond.
