Blackwell man wanted on domestic abuse charges

NEWKIRK — A warrant is issued for Michael Duwane Janssen, 54, Blackwell, by the Kay County District Court.

Jannssen is charged with felony counts of domestic assault and battery by strangulation, domestic assault and battery in presence of a minor, child abuse and child neglect, all after two or more felony convictions.

Blackwell police report in the affidavit that on June 28, officers responded to the 1200 block of south Third Street for a report of a stabbing.

Officers reportedly arrived and found Janssen located at a residence in the 300 block of west Crest suffering from stab wounds to the chest, arm, back and neck.

He was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan. for treatment.

During the police investigation, authorities located a female suffering with a large hematoma on the left side of her face, possible internal head injuries and facial injuries.

The female reportedly told police that Janssen hit her with a closed fist in the head and face and grabbed her by the throat and strangled her until she went to sleep.

An autistic teen attempted to pull Janssen off of the alleged victim. Janssen allegedly then reportedly assaulted the teen.

Police made contact with the teen, who reportedly told investigators that he retrieved a pair of kitchen shears and stabbed Janssen.

“I stabbed him, I had no choice,” he reportedly uttered.

The charges against Janssen were filed on Aug. 19 and a warrant with bond endorsed at $100,000 is issued.

Janssen has a criminal history in Osage County which includes an arrest in February in which he was arrested on domestic abuse charge. (see story)

Court records show that that the domestic charge was dismissed but that he was convicted on two assault and battery charges and sentenced to 90 days in the Osage County Jail with credit for time served.
