OHP reports two killed in accident near Medford
May 22, 2026 | HeadlinesMEDFORD — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is reporting that two Kay County residents are dead and another injured following a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 1:18 p.m. Friday on Oklahoma 11 near County Road 970, one mile east of Medford.
Troopers report that a vehicle driven by Steven D. Bishop, 78, Ponca City, and a commercial vehicle pulling a trailer, driven by Roscoe T. Grimes, 35, Kremlin, were eastbound on Oklahoma 11, when Grimes begin to make a left turn into a private drive.
Troopers report that Bishop attempted to pass Grimes. Grimes reportedly saw the vehicle passing and turned back into the eastbound lane. Bishop reportedly also re-entered the lane and collided with the trailer of the commercial vehicle.
Troopers report that Bishop was injured and his two passengers identified of Janet Carol Bishop, 78, Ponca City, and Margaret Bishop, 78, Blackwell, were killed.
All were reportedly wearing seatbelts.
Grimes was not injured.
The eastbound lane was closed until 5:21 p.m.
Trooper Kristopher Franta # 743 of Troop J worked the accident.
