Blackwell Flycatchers drop two games to Trinidad

TRINIDAD, Colo. — The Blackwell Flycatchers traveled to Colorado this week and lost two games to the Trinidad Triggers.

On Monday, the Triggers defeated Blackwell 8-6.

Blackwell scored first, plating three runs in the third inning off of Trinidad pitcher Jeremiah Williams.

The Flycatchers added another run in the third and another in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.

The Triggers got on the board in the sixth inning with three runs to make the score 5-3.

Blackwell went up 6-3 in the seventh but Trinidad tied the game at six in thier half of the inning.

After holding the Flycatchers in the eighth, Trinidad added two more runs and went on to win the game 8-6.

Dakota Rodd of Wichita, Kan. got the win while Cade Johnson suffered the loss for Blackwell.

On Tuesday Blackwell came up on the short end of a double digit game 13-11.

Jordan Anderson and Jakobe Smith homered for the Triggers. Josh Mendez recorded the win while Owen Little suffered the loss for Blackwell.

The losses drop Blackwell’s record to 23-14 and they drop to third place in the Mountain North standings behind Trinidad and the first place Garden City Wind.

On Thursday the Flycatchers are back at Morgan Field to take on the Wind in the first of a three-game series. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.

Coming in to the series, Joey Dice leads the team in home runs with 14, runs scored with 62 and doubles with 13. Ramifer Salinas leads the team in RBI’s with 39. Marcus Bracey leads the team in triples with two. Damon Burroughs leads the team in hits with 53.

Former Flycatcher Matthew Hickey still leads the team in wins with four, while Eli Davis leads the team in strike outs with 50.
