PAWHUSKA — A court date on the misdemeanor docket is set in Osage County District Court for Ponca City resident Bryce Lee Shelton.

Shelton, 39, was arrested at Highway 60 and Glasgow Road on June 8 after a deputy conducted a traffic stop for defective tail light.

Deputy Andrew Summerlin reports in the affidavit that he approached Shelton during the traffic stop and noticed that his right hand was closed around a small bag of white powder. Shelton reportedly placed his hand under his left thigh, dropping the bag.

When asked what he placed under his thigh and if he had a firearm, Shelton reportedly admitted to having a firearm but denied placing anything under his hip.

The deputy ordered Shelton out of the vehicle. Shelton reportedly grabbed the bag and threw the bag over his truck. It hit a tree branch and dropped next to the truck.

Summerlin asked Shelton what he threw and he denied throwing anything.

As the deputy was handcuffing Shelton, he reportedly pulled away and tried to spin around. Summerlin reportedly placed Shelton against the vehicle and got the handcuffs on him.

Osage Nation Police officer Jason Marchesoni arrived and stayed with Shelton as Summerlin searched for the bag.

The deputy reportedly found the bag and then retrieved Shelton’s loaded firearm from his right hip. Summerlin reports that the substance tested positive for cocaine and that Shelton again denied throwing anything.

Shelton was arraigned on Monday on charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, obstructing an officer and defective vehicle. He entered not guilty pleas to the charges and is free on $2,000 bond.
