Blackwell Flycatchers kick off season at Morgan Field Monday night

BLACKWELL — The Blackwell Flycatchers open the 2024 season against the Trinidad Triggers at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Morgan Field in Blackwell.

The Flycatchers finished their inaugural season in Blackwell with a 17-25 record and missed the playoffs, while Trinidad finished 30-19. The Triggers made the playoffs but were eliminated in the conference game by the Tucson Saguaros who went on to lose the championship to the San Rafael Pacifics.

The 2024 Flycatcher roster includes veterans Jack Skantze, Dominic Pisano, Joey Dice, and Raimfer Salinas.

Skantze finished 2023 with six home runs, 38 runs batted in and 53 runs scored.

Pisano belted one homer, eight doubles, 11 RBIs and scored 32 runs.

Dice finished 2023 with eight homers, 20 RBIs and 41 runs scored.

Salinas, who is a former New York Yankees prospect, finished 2023 season with eight homers, 38 RBIs and 32 runs scored for the Flycacthers. He joined the team after being released by the Yankee’s Class A Tampa Tarpons in April of 2023. (see story)

Veteran infielder Markus Bracey joins the Flycatchers this year.

Bracey has played for the Colorado Springs Snow Sox, Roswell Invaders and the Austin Weirdos in 2023. He finished the 2023 season with two homers, 16 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Veteran catcher Tyler Carpenter joins the Flycatchers this year. Carpenter played for Santa Fe Fuego in 2022 and the Marysville Drakes in 2023. There he played in 46 games, hit five home runs, drive in 34 and scored 26 runs.

Catcher Cameron Pfafman will return to the Flycatchers roster. He finished 2023 with  three home runs, 17 RBIs, and 15 runs scored.

Rookie outfielders Kameron Wilson and Stephen Johnson also join the team.

The 2024 Flycatcher pitching roster includes veterans Cade Johnson, Luke Poselovic, and Marty Carnahan.

Johnson finished 2023 with an ERA of 9.11 and a won loss record of 2-2. He struck out 31 in 26.2 innings.

Poselovic finished 2023 with a 10.6 ERA in 63.1 innings pitched. He struck out 49 and saved games in 17 appearances.

Carnahan played two season with the Garden City Wind and spent the 2023 season with Santa Fe Fuego. He finished last year with a 7.61 ERA and a 2-6 win loss record. He struck out 67 in 52 innings pitched.

Rookies joining the Flycatchers include pitcher Brendan Moran, Arlington, Minnesota, who has played for Cameron University; Cade Caldwell, Marietta, Georgia, who has played for Middle Georgia State; Joey Muccilli, Trenton, N.J. who has played for Mercer County, and Owen Little, Arlington Minn, who has played for Southwest Tennessee Community College.

Pitchers Andrew Kemper, Benjamin Stephens, Jadon Harper, Kaden Kneip, Martin Lozano, and Matthew Hickey also join the club. Monday’s game is the start of a four stint against the Triggers.
