TONKAWA — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that a Lamont resident was injured in a one-vehicle accident that occurred at 11:12 p.m. Monday on Oklahoma 60, east of 124th Street, three miles west of Tonkawa.

Troopers report that Jessica A. Young, 33, Lamont, was traveling west in a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe when the vehicle suffered mechanical failure. Young reportedly lost control of the vehicle and departed the roadway to the right. She overcorrected, re-entered the road to the left and impacted a ditch. The vehicle continued on and overturned one time and came to rest on its wheels.

Young was ejected 50 yards from the vehicle.

Her passengers, Michael Cloud, 35, Ponca City and a 16-year-old of Lamont were not injured.

Troopers report that defective equipment is the cause of the accident and that Cloud was the only one wearing a seatbelt.

Investigated by Trooper Brown No. 308 of the Kay/Noble County detachment of Troop K.  Assisted by the Kay County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Tonkawa Police and Fire Departments.
