Ponca City woman in critical condition following accident on U.S. 60

KAY COUNTY — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that a Ponca City woman is in critical condition following a one-vehicle accident that occurred at 3 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 60 near Q Street, seven miles west of Ponca City.

Troopers report that Carol Yvonne Rutherford, 67, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Impala eastbound on U.S. 60 when she gradually departed the roadway to the right and hit a dirt embankment in a construction zone causing the vehicle to leave the roadway, roll and land on its top. Rutherford was pinned for nearly three hours before being extricated by Ponca City Firefighters.

She was airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan. where she in critical condition with internal trunk, external trunk, head and arm injuries.

Troopers cite the cause of the accident as inattention.
