NEWKIRK — Kay County first responders handled two major accidents today in Kay County.

Sheriff Steve Kelley said a deputy was responding to a report of an accident on Coleman Road at 12:30 p.m. when the deputy became involved in an accident.

Kelley said the deputy was eastbound on Coleman with lights and siren when a vehicle failed to yield at the intersection of Coleman and Pecan and the vehicles collided.

The sheriff said the deputy was taken to Integris Health in Ponca City where he was treated and released.

Both subjects in the other vehicle, including one who was airlifted from the scene, were treated and released.

Kelley said deputies later learned that the reported accident the deputy was responding to was not an accident but actually a vehicle stuck in a ditch with another attempting to pull it out.

Just after 3:30 p.m. Newkirk fire and Kay County deputies responded to a report of a rock truck and a pickup that collided near Kildare and Pecan Roads. Newkirk Fire chief Adam Longcrier said that no injuries were reported. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol worked both accidents.
