TONKAWA — Kirk Henderson resigned as city manager this week, a position he had held since 2014.

Tonkawa police chief and emergency management director, Nick Payne, has been named acting city manager.

Henderson resigned days after a criminal case filed against him in 2021 was dismissed. (see story)

In an interview with The Tonkawa News, Henderson reportedly said that having the charges dismissed provided him a clean slate and that he felt it was time to move on.

Payne is slated to act as city manager until a new one is selected.
