NEWKIRK — A warrant is issued for Danika Paige Martin, 27, Arkansas City, Kan. by the Kay County District Court.

Newkirk police officer Gage Wathor reports in the affidavit that on Oct. 9, 2023, he attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle for defective equipment in the area of Ninth and Main Street in Newkirk.

The vehicle reportedly accelerated to speeds approaching 100mph as it traveled south on Main Street. As the vehicle approached Dry Road and the south Main extension and lost control as the driver, later identified as Martin, attempted a left turn. Martin reportedly exited the roadway and entered a ditch on the right, just missing a barb wired fence. The vehicle re-entered the roadway and headed east.

Wathor reports that Martin passed Canteen Road at 115mph and approached Brake Road at 125mph. The vehicle reportedly headed into Kildare city limits at 130mph.

Wathor reports that the vehicle hit the railroad tracks and became airborne, nearly missing another vehicle upon landing in the northbound lane of Pecan Road. Martin continued south on Pecan at speeds of 135 mph. At the intersection of Coleman and Pecan Roads, Martin reportedly ran through the stop sign and became airborne again.

Wathor reports she lost control south of the south edge of Coleman Road, east of Pecan Road and the vehicle rolled before it came to rest on the roof.

Wathor located the vehicle in a ditch with Martin laying on the north side of the vehicle. Her passenger, Joseph Wayne Fann, 40, Winfield, Kan., who had indicated earlier in the pursuit that he wanted out of the vehicle by showing his hands, was located and taken to the hospital in Ponca City for treatment.

Martin reportedly told officials that a male subject was driving and fled the scene. She was airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan. Deputies launched drones and checked the area for the alleged male subject. No one was located.

Warrants were confirmed on Martin out of Bakersfield, Calif. and a warrant for Fann was confirmed out of Topeka, Kan.
