South Carolina man convicted of sex crimes

NEWKIRK —  Benjamin Mark Peetoom, 30, Summerville, South Carolina, appeared in Kay County District Court on Nov. 15 and entered guilty pleas to felony counts of lewd and or indecent proposals or acts to a child under 16 and enticing a child under 16 into a secluded place.

The charges were filed on Aug. 23, 2022 following an investigation by the Kay County Sheriff’s Department. (see story)

Peetoom is sentenced to 20 years in prison with all but 60 days suspended. He is also ordered to register as a sex offender, continue alcohol counseling and complete sex offender evaluation.
