PONCA CITY — Thick blinding smoke was seen billowing over the west side of town today shortly before noon.

Ponca City and Ranch Drive fire units responded to what was dispatched as a commercial structure fire in the area of Harland’s Diesel.

Units arrived to find that the structure was not on fire but a large portion of grass was.

Kay County Emergency Management Director Daniel Hesson said there has been at lease 15-20 acres of open prairie burned, possibly some tires and two structures suffered damage. The cause of the fie is under investigation.

As of 1 p.m. crews were hitting hot spots in the area.
