Murder case filed against an Edmond doctor dismissed in Kay County; State plans to appeal

NEWKIRK — The murder case filed against Dr. George Samir Alhaj, 51, Edmond, in Kay County District Court in 2021, has been dismissed.

On Nov. 17, 2021, Alhaj was charged with second degree murder or in the alternative second degree manslaughter in the death of 25-year-old Courtney Paige Whitecotton, who died on Jan. 21, 2019 at her home.

The Medical Examiner reports that Whitecotton died because of mixed drug toxicity due to Oxymorphine with Morphine and Zolpidem. (see story)

According to the Oklahoma State Court Network prosecutors plan to appeal the court’s decision to dismiss the case.
