Ponca City woman in critical condition following accident at Coleman and Pecan Roads

PONCA CITY — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that a Ponca City woman is in critical condition following a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 10:38 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Coleman Road and north Pecan Road, north of Ponca City.

Troopers report that Cheryl Fletcher, 77, was traveling north on Pecan Road in a 2015 blue Honda Fit and that Ponca City resident Brian Tilley, 51, was traveling east on Coleman Road in a 2009 silver GMC Sierra.

Fletcher reportedly failed to yield at the stop sign and started into the intersection in the path of Tilley. Tilley reportedly attempted to avoid the collision by swerving to the left. The two vehicles impacted at the intersection. Fletcher’s vehicle was pushed off the road to the right, traveling through a fence and coming to rest in a field. 

Tilley’s vehicle came to rest in the westbound lane of Coleman Road. 

Troopers report that Fletcher was pinned for nearly 45 minutes and was extricated by Ponca City firefighters using the Hurst tools.

Fletcher was transported via ambulance to Alliance Health and then airlifted to St. Frances in Tulsa where she is listed in critical condition with leg and trunk injuries.

Tilley was treated on scene by first responded and released.

Troopers cite the cause of the collision as failure to yield at the stop sign.
