Blackwell Flycatchers to take on Santa Fe in Blackwell on Tuesday

ROSWELL, N.M — After a three game set rained out in Texas, the Blackwell Flycatchers traveled to Roswell, New Mexico to take on the The Roswell Invaders at Joe Bauman Stadium and will return to Morgan Field in Blackwell on Tuesday.

The first of the five game set in Roswell was played on Thursday with the 19-11 victory going to The Invaders.

Invaders pitcher Ian Concevitch, Atlanta, Georgia, recorded his second win of the season, going three innings and striking out three.

Flycatchers’ pitcher Tate Jernigan, Houston, Texas, suffered the loss as he gave up three earned runs, three hits, a walk and did not complete an inning.

The Invaders scored three runs in the first inning off of Jernigan.

In the second inning, The Flycatchers, picked up two runs off of Invaders veteran pitcher Rene Ramirez, Houston, Texas.

In the fourth inning, The Flycatchers took the lead after plating five runs thanks in part to home run by first baseman Jeff Fripp, Houston, Texas.

After that the Invaders took over, scoring a total of 16 runs in three innings.

Invaders’ veteran left fielder, Robert Morosetti, Pittsburgh, Pa. lead both teams in RBI’s with six.

Batting stats recorded for the game are as follows:

Veteran outfielder, Rammer Salinas, Houston, Texas, who has experience in the New York Yankees’ organization, lead Blackwell in hits with four, driving in two runs and scoring three.

Fripp knocked in three runs on three hits in six at bats and scored one run.

Veteran left fielder, Dominick Pissano, Manteca, Calif., and rookie right fielder Jack Skantze, Houston, Texas, both had two hits and one RBI. Pissano scored two runs while Skantze scored one run.

Veteran shortstop Joey Dice, Livermore, Calif., rookie infielder Derrick Shoem, Houston, Texas,  and veteran third baseman, Franklyn Perez, who has experience with the Tampa Bay Rays organization, all chipped in one hit. Pitchers Cade Johnson and CJ Mervilus, also recorded a hit. 

The loss dropped the Flycatcher’s record to 2-7.

Friday’s game was postponed because of field issues and was rescheduled as the opening game of doubleheader on June 17.

The Invaders swept the doubleheader with a 25-6 win in game one and a 14-8 victory in game two, dropping the Flycatchers to 2-9.

Veteran pitcher David Escobar, Houston, Texas, suffered the loss in the opening matchup after allowing, six hits, four walks and nine earned runs in two innings.

Fripp lead the Flycatchers in hitting with two hits in four at bats, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Humberto Vela, Pasadena, Texas recorded the win for The Invaders.

Dice took the loss for the Flycatchers in the second game after pitching a third of an inning and giving up two runs.

Rookie pitcher Matty Rones, Houston, Texas, started the game for Blackwell, going three innings, allowing five hits, and four earned runs.

Salinas and rookie catcher Cameron Phillips, both had two hits while Skantze lead the Flycatchers in RBIs with two. (see feature story on Phillips here)

The two teams will play two more games before The Flycatchers return to Blackwell and host the Santa Fe Fuego on Tuesday.
