HENNESSEY — A Ponca City resident is in stable condition following a three-vehicle accident that occurred at 1:13 p.m. Wednesday on County Road E680 west of Banner Road southeast of Hennessey in Kingfisher County.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers report that a 2007 Freightliner driven by Gary Gene Higgins, 47, Ponca City, was traveling east on CR E680 behind a 2009 Peterbilt semi driven by Kent Douglas Dobbins, 34, Ponca City.
Troopers report that a third vehicle, a 2004 Ford F350 pick up driven by Doug Eugene Gholson, 62, Kingfisher, was eastbound at the stop sign. Dobbins reportedly started to slow down causing Higgins to rear end his semi. The impact reportedly caused Dobbins’ semi to hit the pickup.
Troopers report that Higgins was airlifted from the scene to OU Medical in Oklahoma City where he is admitted for a head injury and listed in stable condition.
Dobbins and Gholson were not injured.
Troopers cite the cause of the accident as following to closely and that Higgins was not using a seatbelt.
