After the arrest Smith reportedly confessed to robbing the Stop N Go, 501 west Highland, while wearing a large football mask on Dec. 4, 2022. A resident in the 700 block of north Elm located the mask the next day and on Dec. 11, a female told police that Smith was the robbery suspect.
Following Smith’s arrest, he reportedly told officers that he got away with about $100 from the store and that he obtained the mask from a friend named David and that the gun used was a toy water gun.
In addition to the robbery case, Smith entered a no contest plea to a felony count of possession of contraband by an inmate filed on Jan. 11.
On the robbery charge he was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
On the contraband charge he was sentenced to a 20-year suspended sentence and ordered to register as a meth offender. Smith waived his right to remain in the county jail for 10 days.
