Deferred sentence handed down in animal cruelty case
February 1, 2023 | CourtsNEWKIRK — Fred Roy Warrior Jr., 24, Ponca City, entered guilty pleas to a felony count of cruelty to animals and a misdemeanor count of reckless conduct with a firearm in Kay County District Court.

Warrior is ordered to serve 15 weekends in the county jail as part of a five year deferred prison sentence.
Warrior was charged on Sept. 2, 2021 after an investigation by Kay County deputies.
Deputy Earl Watkins reports that on May 3, 2021, he was dispatched to the 12000 block of west Oakland Road in Tonkawa for a report of a dog that was shot and people fighting.
The owner of the dog reportedly said that her dog was chained when it was shot. The owner stated she was taking the dog to the vet but wanted whoever shot the dog to pay the bill.
Deputies collected statements from witnesses and Warrior was later charged.
Court records show that no restitution claim was submitted so none could be ordered.
