Ponca City Police arrest armed robbery suspect

PONCA CITY — Ponca City police arrested Jerid Dustin Smith, 25, Ponca City, Tuesday evening after responding to a call at a storage unit complex in the 900 block of N. Union.

Smith was wanted on warrants and for questioning in regards to an armed robbery that occurred on Dec. 4 at the Stop N Go, 501 west Highland.

Upon arrival Smith and a female were inside the facility. Smith attempted to hide from officers but was located and arrested. He was transported to the station and questioned.

Police reportedly conducted an interview today with Smith and he reportedly confessed to being the suspect photographed with a football mask on during the Dec. 4 robbery.

Smith reportedly told investigators he committed the robbery so he and his girlfriend could afford to pay for their storage shed, in the 900 block of north Union. 

Smith is now facing pending charges of obstructing an officer, bringing contraband into a jail, and first degree robbery in addition to charges he faces in other cases that include second degree robbery and domestic abuse filed on May 12. Bond in that case is endorsed at $5,000. He also faces charges of falsely personate another to create liability and failure to equip a bicycle with brakes filed on Dec. 30. Bond in that case is endorsed at $2,500.
