Warrants issued in child neglect case
January 3, 2023 | CourtsNEWKIRK — Warrants are issued for Kassandra Kay Taylor, 21, and Kyle Arlen Lewis Brown, 21, both of Ponca City, by the Kay County District Court.
Both are facing a felony count of child neglect.
Ponca City police report that on Oct. 18, police received a notification from the Department of Human Services concerning a one-year-old who tested positive for marijuana.
Officials report that the child was in foster care and was allowed a visit with his biological parents.
The foster mother reportedly told officials that the child was picked up by Brown and Taylor at noon and that the child was returned to her at 4 p.m. disoriented and smelling of marijuana.
The foster mother reportedly told police that she could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle that Brown and Taylor were in.
DHS officials later had a hair follicle test conducted on the child and results were positive for marijuana.
The child neglect offenses were filed against Taylor and Brown on Dec. 6.
Bond for Brown is endorsed at $10,000 and bond for Taylor is endorsed at $5,000.
