Convicted cop killer sentenced in Kay County District Court to prison on firearm charge

NEWKIRK — Convicted cop killer Christopher Shaun Wheeler, 43, Ponca City, is now convicted of a felony count of possession of a firearm during probation and sentence to prison.

Wheeler was arrested by Ponca City police on June 10 at J.W. Cobbs after receiving a report of a male subject with a firearm and bragging about killing a deputy. (see story)

Wheeler was convicted in 1996 of shooting and killing Wythe County, Virginia deputy Cliff Dicker.

Wheeler was 15 at the time. (see story) He was convicted of the murder and sentenced to 43 years in prison and was released in 2021.

On Dec. 19 Wheeler entered a no contest plea to the firearm charge in Kay County District Court.

He was sentenced by Judge Lee Turner to 10 years in prison and has to be supervised by prison officials no less than nine months but no more than one year.
