PONCA CITY — The Ponca City Public Schools is announcing that Superintendent Shelly Arrott plans to retire and accept the position of CEO of the Ponca City Chamber of Commerce, replacing the retiring Rich Cantillon who is retiring in February.

Pending approval of the school board at the scheduled December meeting, Arrott will be retiring after 39 years of being an Oklahoma educator at the end of the school year. She has worked as superintendent for the past six years.

“It is a bittersweet moment as I have been offered an opportunity to make a positive impact for the Ponca City Chamber of Commerce,” said Arrott.

“The students, teachers, principals, staff, board members, parents and community of Ponca City are like my family. I had made the decision to retire at the end of this school year after 39 years in public education to focus on my own family, but I am a people person and I want to continue to make an impact on the community that I love. The position with the chamber, pending the board’s approval of my retirement, will still allow me to advocate for our schools and community and keep me involved with Ponca City. I wanted to make this announcement today so my school family would hear it from me first. We have a great district and a great community. They are both very dear to my heart.”

“Shelley is an experienced and devoted servant of our community and loves Ponca City. We know Shelley will lead the Chamber and support our businesses with compassion and professionalism,” said Chamber chair Wendy Stobbe.

Arrott’s background includes direct strategic planning, professional development, multimillion-dollar budgets and supervision of employees and students. In the interim, Tiffany Hermann, Chamber Vice President, will assume interim CEO tasks and responsibilities.
