Convicted sex offender sentenced to prison

NEWKIRK — Troy Edward Roberts, 44, Newkirk, entered no contest pleas in Kay County District Court in four criminal cases and has been sentenced to prison.

On May 14, 2015, Roberts was charged with felony counts of lewd molestation and forcible sodomy. On June 5, 2017, he was convicted of the charges and sentenced to a 15-year suspended prison sentence. That sentence is now revoked.

In 2018, Roberts was arrested on four felony charges including sex offender registration charges.

He was later convicted on the charges and given a 10-year suspended prison sentence which is now revoked.

On May 6, 2020, Roberts was charged with a felony count of failure to register as a sex offender. (see story)

In that case he is sentenced to five years in prison.

On June 30, 2022, Roberts was charged with driving under the influence, second and subsequent charge. In that case he was arrested by Ponca City police in the 1300 block of Viola Ave.

Police report that officers responded on June 23 to the intersection of 13th and Highland for a report of an intoxicated female. They made contact with the female who reportedly stated that she had been in a domestic with Roberts. Officers report the woman had injuries on her legs. While on scene Roberts drove by. Police made a traffic stop. Officers report that Roberts stepped out of the car and was unsteady on his feet. He reportedly stated, “Man I can’t afford a DUI.”

He reportedly admitted to officers that he had consumed brandy. Officers performed a Standardized Field Sobriety Test resulting in a DUI arrest.

He was also arrested on a domestic complaint. He is sentenced to 10 years in that case.

Roberts is now in the county jail awaiting transfer to the Department of Corrections.
