Blackwell couple sentenced on child abuse charges

NEWKIRK — A Blackwell couple are now convicted of felony counts of child abuse and enabling child abuse in Kay County District Court.

Kylie Dawn Swopes-Dill, 23, entered a no contest plea to felony charges of child abuse and enabling child abuse and Ethan Bryant Dill, 26, entered a guilty plea to child abuse.

Blackwell police report in the affidavit that on April 8 officers responded at 4:03 p.m. to the 1000 block of S. Main for a report of a baby submerged in water and not responding.

The child was taken to Blackwell hospital before being airlifted to OU Medical.

Offiicals report that the child was suffering from a subdrual hematoma and skull fracture. (see story)

Ethan is sentenced to 20 years in prison with all but six months in the county jail suspended. He was also sentenced to 52 weeks of domestic violence treatment.

Kylie is sentenced to 20 years in prison with all but one year in the county jail suspended. She is ordered to complete parenting classes within six months and submit to random drug tests.
