Ice on the Plaza grand opening set for Friday
November 17, 2022 | HeadlinesPONCA CITY — Ponca City Main Street’s Ice on the Plaza grand opening celebration is taking place at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 at City Hall with the lighting of the City’s Christmas Tree. The synthetic ice rink located, at Veterans Plaza, will be open to the public Nov. 18-Dec. 31.
Food and beverages will be available at the grand opening and the Ponca City High School Chorale will perform.
Kids 12 and under skate for $10, adults skate for $12 and seniors and veterans skate for $8.
“This event has been nearly a year in the making. We’ve had tremendous community support from over 50 sponsors to make this year’s rink happen,” said Lori Henderson, PCMS Ice on the Plaza committee chair. “We are so excited to bring this six-week holiday event to Ponca City. It will be a wonderful opportunity for our citizens to make some magical holiday memories, and we think it will bring a lot of people to town, as well.”
In addition to the grand opening celebration, Ice on the Plaza will play host to other special holiday events including Penguins at the Plaza 1-3 p.m. on Nov. 26, featuring real penguins from Tanganyika Wildlife Park; A visit from Santa Claus 1-5 p.m. on Dec. 3; Free skate day for kids, 3-6 p.m. on Dec. 20 and the Reindeer Club will bring live reindeer for photo, feeding and education 5-7 p.m. on Dec. 22.
