PONCA CITY — Main Street Executive Director Maci Heppel presented the Ponca City Main Street Review at this week’s Ponca City Board of Commissioner’s meeting.

Heppel said the design committee has accomplished many updates downtown including adding 14 new locations to the downtown art tour.

She said the facade improvement grant was awarded to three projects including The Farm House Kids Company, which received $500 towards new signage. Heppel said the other two projects at Vortex Alley and My Media Matters are in the works.

She said that Main Street worked with the 988 Oklahoma Mental Health Hotline and received a free $15,000 mural which is located behind Grand Central Court between 1st and 2nd Streets on Grand.

“If you go through the alley you can see that located there,” she said.

Heppel said a Call for Artists was made for a Fox Art Statue which will be placed in the Grand Arts District in front of the Equity Bank Building at 3rd and Grand Ave. Local artist Kal Cloonan is selected to paint the statue.

Heppel said Main Street received a $4,000 grant from the Oklahoma Arts Council to be used for the Grand Arts District.

“Part of those funds will go to the fox statute and to pay the artist for the painting of that,” said Heppel. “The newest project that we are working on is a call for artist for the new Unity Murial that is going to be placed downtown. We hope to have that completed in the spring of 2023.”

Heppel said two fundraisers were held this year including the Casino Grand fundraiser which about 150 people attended.

She gave a list of past promotions held downtown and said that Small Business Saturday is set for Nov. 26 and that the Holiday Open House is set for Dec. 2-3.

“The exciting one is coming downtown this week for Ice on the Plaza,” she said. “The tree lighting will be at 6:30 p.m. followed by the grand opening of the rink.”
