Ponca City man convicted in assault case
September 20, 2022 | CourtsNEWKIRK — Rodney Ray Colwell, 61, Ponca City, entered a no contest plea in Kay County District Court to a felony count of assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.

Colwell was charged on July 20, 2021 with the offenses plus a misdemeanor charge of possession of a CDS. That was charge was dismissed after amended information was filed.
Colwell was charged after a Kay County deputy responded to a report of a reckless driver allegedly chasing family members in regards to a call made to Adult Protective Services concerning an elderly family member. (see story)
Judge David Bandy sentenced Colwell to a 10 year suspended sentence and ordered Colwell to complete an anger management program and 80 hours of community service at the rate of five hours a month.
Colwell was also sentenced to a 90 day suspended sentence in the county jail on the reckless driving charge.
A compliance docket is set for Jan. 27.
