Teen originally accused of lewd acts with a minor, convicted of assault and battery instead

NEWKIRK — A teen originally accused of lewd acts with a child under 16, entered a no contest plea to an amended felony charge of aggravated assault in Kay County District Court.

Kaden Joseph Morris, 19, Ponca City, was charged on May 7, 2021, after Ponca City police investigated a report of sexually charged messages exchanged online with an 11-year-old.

Det. Sgt. Benjamin Garrison reports that there were several messages between the child and Morris in which Morris spoke in a lewd manor. Police report that the pair played a digital form of truth or dare on the topic of sex.

Police report when the child’s mother found the messages, she reportedly texted Morris and told him to leave the child alone.

He reportedly responded with an an apology.

Morris entered the no contest plea in court on Monday and sentencing is deferred for seven years and he was ordered to serve 30 days in the county jail. He is also ordered to have no contact with the victim or any minor under the age of 16 and to complete sex offender evaluation.
