PONCA CITY — Ponca City police captured convicted murderer Christopher Shaun Wheeler, 42, at J.W. Cobbs after a caller reported a man brandishing a weapon at the food establishment and bragging about being a cop killer.
Ponca City police Capt. Kevin Jeffries said officers responded to Cobbs at 10 p.m. on Friday, identified the man as Wheeler, and learned that he was a convicted felon.
He was reportedly arrested without incident and later booked in the county jail on a probable charge of felon in possession of a weapon. Judge David Wilkie set bond at $150,000.
Wheeler was convicted at age 15 of killing Wythe County Virginia Deputy, Cliff Dicker in 1996.
He reportedly shot Dicker with a .22-caliber rifle and then shot Dicker a second time with his service weapon. Dicker was attempting to arrest Wheeler on theft charges at the time of the murder.
Wheeler was charged and convicted as an adult.
He was sentenced to 43 years in prison but was released on parole from Green Rock Correctional Facility in August of 2021. Soon after release, Wheeler relocated to Ponca City and registered with the Department of Corrections. Jeffries said he was staying at a residence on 14th Street.
