Kay County and Kansas authorities investigating shooting

Kay County Sheriff Steve Kelley said this afternoon that it appears the shooting took place in a rural area in Cowley County, Kansas. He said Arkansas City Police and Cowley County Sheriff investigators are working on that part of the investigation. Kelley also said the the victims were two females and two males.

NEWKIRK — The Kay County Sheriff’s Department is working with Arkansas City, Kan. investigators on a shooting investigation.

Sheriff Steve Kelley said today that deputies responded to the 7 Clans Casino gas station north of Newkirk at approximately 4 a.m. for a report of three shooting victims who were dropped off at the location. A fourth victim, the driver, was located at Alliance Health in Ponca City.

Kelley said two of the three were transported via Newkirk ambulance to a Wichita hospital and the other was transported to Alliance Health in Ponca City via Newkirk ambulance and is being transferred to an Oklahoma City hospital. He said the three’s injuries range from hip, chest, and stomach wounds.

The driver is being treated and released for a hand wound.

Kelley said investigators do not know where the shootings took place or why. The victims are two males and two females and residents of Kansas.

The vehicle was impounded.
