Deferred sentence handed down in child abuse case

NEWKIRK — Dylan James Summitt, 29, Newkirk, entered a no contest plea in Kay County District Court to felony counts of child neglect, child abuse by injury conspiracy and a misdemeanor charge of obstructing an officer.

Sentencing was deferred for two years and Summitt was ordered to 40 hours of community service.

Newkirk police report that officers investigated a report of child abuse involving a two-year-old, who was transferred to OU Children’s in Oklahoma City suffering from multiple injuries.

As a result Summitt and Kendra Nicole Eads, 27, were arrested and charged.

Summitt also entered no contest pleas in domestic abuse and DUI cases. Sentencing was deferred in those cases.
