NEWKIRK — Maren Elizabeth Zimmerman, 26, Sedgwick, Kan. entered a no contest plea to a felony count of child abuse by injury in Kay County District Court.
She was originally charged with felony charges of cause, procure or permit injury or abuse to a child, conspiracy and child neglect.
Blackwell police report that Zimmerman and Aaron Dale Skaggs, 27, Blackwell, were arrested after police were requested by the Department of Human Services to investigate a report of child abuse.
The child reportedly had multiple bruises on his arms and told authorities that sometimes he was forced to go to the bathroom in his pants. (see full story)
Sentencing for Zimmerman is deferred for three-years and she was ordered to have no contact with the juvenile. She is also ordered to complete 40 hours of community service at a rate no less than five hours a month and obtain a mental health assessment.
Skaggs is scheduled for a plea docket on July 19.
