Deferred sentence handed down in strangulation case

NEWKIRK — Stephen Lamont Wade, 27, formally of Arkansas City and Fort Collins, Colo. and now listed as an Everett Washington resident, entered a no contest plea in Kay County District Court to a felony count of domestic assault and battery by strangulation.

The charge was filed on Oct. 1, 2019. Ponca City police report Wade is accused of strangling a woman on Sept. 14 at a residence in Ponca City in front of juveniles. See story

Sentencing was deferred for three years by Judge David Bandy and Wade is ordered to complete 52 weeks of domestic violence treatment.
