NEWKIRK — A Kay County jury took 65 minutes to find Bambi Lynn Nichols, 40, Ponca City, not guilty of four counts of embezzlement.

Nichols was accused of embezzling nearly $5,000 from the county jail.

Following the verdict, Jarrod Stevenson, Nichols’ defense attorney, said, “Mrs. Nichols never committed these crimes. The Kay County Detention Center and the Sheriff’s Department had no idea who took this money and resorted to both threats of prosecution and promises of leniency in order to compel her false confession. The jury saw right through it and reached the right verdict.”
