PONCA CITY — Kay County deputies arrested Jeremy Ward after a pursuit that began at 7:11 p.m. south of Ponca City and ended north of town with a standoff.

Sheriff Steve Kelley said a deputy attempted to stop a gray Dodge Charger but instead of stopping, the vehicle fled south on 14th Street. The pursuit traveled west on South Ave. to 10th Street and then into the alley between 6th and 7th Streets before heading north on Madison and then east on Ponca.

At 7:13 p.m. the vehicle was northbound on 8th Street before going west on Central and then northbound on 14th Street. At 7:14 p.m. the pursuit went east on Lake Road with speeds reaching 80 miles per hour. Osage County deputies were notified.

At 7:16 p.m. the pursuit passed Prentice Road eastbound at 74mph and then passing Longwood at 70mph. At 7:18 p.m. deputies reported there was a male and female in the vehicle as the pursuit approached Enterprise at 72mph, where the pursuit went northbound at 7:19 p.m.

At 7:21 p.m. the chase reached Prospect at 70mph. At 7:22 p.m. deputies reported the pursuit was northbound approaching Highway 11 on Enterprise at 70mph where the vehicle ran a stop sign at 74mph.

At 7:24 p.m. deputies reported speeds started to decrease until the vehicle came to rest near Furguson and Enterprise.

Kelley said the vehicle stopped when it ran out of gas. “At the time deputies reported the female exited the vehicle and that Ward held a gun to his head. We had a standoff for about 45 minutes.”

Newkirk ambulance was staged near the scene.

“The suspect came out after we talked to him on the phone,” said Kelley. He was medically and mentally evaluated and then arrested,” said Kelley.
