PONCA CITY — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has identified the driver of a school bus involved in an accident at 3:55 p.m. Friday  on Prentice Road and east South Ave., as Lacey Gower, 50, Ponca City.

Gower was driving a Ponca City School bus eastbound on a county road with eight students on board, when a 12-year-old boy on bicycle, traveling south out of a steep private drive, reportedly struck the side of the bus.

Troopers report the boy was airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan. before being transferred to a St. Louis, Mo. hospital where he is listed in critical condition with head, arm, leg, trunk internal and trunk external injuries.

Gower was not injured nor were any of the students on board. Troopers cite the cause of the accident as the juvenile  failed to yield from a private drive. Ponca City Public Schools report counselors are available for staff and students.
