KAW CITY — Kaw City fire units, with the assistance of Shidler and Ponca City fire units, battled an early morning house fire today at 119 Spruce.

Kaw City fire chief Steven Long said the call came in at 3:56 a.m.

“We arrived at 4:02 a.m. and found that the left front part of the home was engulfed,” said Long. “The flames extended into the second story of the home and we had to pull back into a defensive fire attack.”

Long said he believes the home was moved to the city from old Kaw City and was probably a 100 years old at least.

“We declared the fire extinguished at 7:24 a.m. but we still have a truck on scene hitting hot spots. I believe the ruins will smolder for a week. It was one of the hottest fires I have ever dealt with and I spent 20 years on the Ponca City Fire Department” Long said the cause of the fire has been deemed accidental and that there were no injuries.
