TONKAWA —  Nate Goodlow is the recipient of the Northern Oklahoma College Jared Weiberg Endowed Scholarship for the 2021-22 academic year.

Goodlow is a Health and Physical Education major from Midwest City.

The Jared Weiberg Endowed scholarship is presented to a member of the Maverick Men’s Basketball team whose qualities include a strong work ethic, loyalty, unselfishness, and a passion for basketball. Goodlow is the 20th recipient of this award and will receive a $1000.00 scholarship. The scholarship is in memory of former Maverick Jared Weiberg, who was one of 10 killed in a plane crash on Jan. 27, 2001, in Arapahoe County Colo.

Coach Donnie Jackson presents the Jared Weiberg Endowed Scholarship Certificate to Nate Goodlow. Goodlow’s name will be inscribed on the memorial plaque, which is displayed in the lobby of the Vineyard Library-Administration building.

Weiberg, 22, was a second-year student manager for the Oklahoma State University men’s basketball team after joining the program originally as a walk-on player.  The OSU senior was student-teaching at Stillwater High School this semester. He was a passenger in one of three planes carrying the OSU team back to Stillwater after a Saturday afternoon game in Boulder against the University of Colo. The plane left the Jefferson County Airport in Broomfield, which is between Denver and Boulder, at about 6 p.m. After flying east for about 35 minutes, the plane crashed during a light snowstorm into a remote field north of Interstate 70 near Byers.

Presenting the scholarship certificate to Goodlow is coach Donnie Jackson.  Goodlow’s name will be inscribed on the memorial plaque, which is displayed in the lobby of the Vineyard Library-Administration building.
