Ponca City man faces two charges of assault with a deadly weapon

NEWKIRK — An initial appearance is set for Raymond Clifford Pollard, 46, Ponca City, on Aug. 7 in Kay County District Court.

Pollard was arrested by Ponca City police on July 27 in the 900 block of S. 12th Street.

He is facing two felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

Officer Caleb Landis reports he responded to the area for a report of a disturbance involving a firearm. A witness reportedly told Landis that an argument broke out and that a male subject was waving an AR style rifle around.The witness said she called police but the subject left before officers arrived.

As Landis searched for the armed individual, another subject called police with information. The second witness reportedly told police that Pollard was the male subject with the AR-15. The witness reportedly told Landis that Pollard pointed the gun at the first witness and then at him.

A male subject reportedly grabbed the barrel of the gun and pushed it up. The two men reportedly wrestled over the weapon and the male reportedly took the gun from Pollard.

The witness said he believes the male subject saved his life.

Landis located and arrested Pollard. Landis also made contact with the male subject who took the weapon away from Pollard.

The subject reportedly told the officer he took the weapon to a residence and gave it to the resident. He told Landis that he found one round jammed in the chamber and that the magazine had rounds in it.

Landis questioned Pollard. Pollard reportedly denies the allegations made against him. He is free on $25,000 bond.
