Pawnee man killed and two Ponca City residents injured in three-vehicle accident

MORRISON — A three- vehicle accident near Morrison left a Pawnee man dead and Two Ponca City residents injured.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that Dennis R. Southern, 68, Pawnee, was killed in the accident that occurred at 2:13 p.m. on U.S. 177 in the southbound lanes near Harvest Road southwest of Morrison in Noble County.

Troopers report Southern was driving a 1997 Chevrolet truck southbound on U.S. 177 when he reportedly struck a  2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by George Deweese Jr., 29, Ponca City, who was stopped in the southbound lane on U.S. 177 by a Department of Transportation authorized flagman where the road was shutdown to one lane.

Troopers report Southern’s vehicle then entered the northbound lane and was struck head on by a 2011 Cadillac Escalade driven by Anita D. Casey, 36, Ponca City.

Southern was pinned for an unknown amount of time before being extricated by Stillwater Fire Department.

Deweese Jr., reportedly suffered trunk external and arm injuries and refused treatment on scene.

Casey reportedly suffered external arm and leg injuries but also refused treatment on scene.

OHP continues to investigate the cause of the collision.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Derek Fry No. 298 of the Payne/Noble County Detachment of Troop K. Assisted by Lieutenant David Owen No. 178 of Troop S, Trooper Steven Warlick No. 499 of Troop YA, Trooper Brandon Harmon No. 506 of Troop YA, Trooper Tyler Langston No. 609 of the Kay/Noble County Detachment of Troop K, and Trooper Christopher Vaughan NO. 832 of the Kay/Noble County Detachment of Troop K, Stillwater Fire Department, Morrison Fire Department, Noble County Sheriff Department, and LifeNet Emergency Medical Services.
