Warrant issued in mail theft case

NEWKIRK — A warrant is issued by the Kay County District Court for 22-year-old Cherrves Defloyd Orange of Spencer.

Orange is charged with a felony count of uttering a forged instrument and a misdemeanor charge of petit larceny.

Ponca City police report Orange is accused of stealing mail out of the Westside Animal Clinic mailbox and then forging a check he allegedly took.

A witness told police that on April 18, he reportedly saw a white Honda parked near the mailboxes. The witness said there were four males with a handful of mail. When the witness asked what they were doing they left. The witness got a photo of the vehicle and tag and then contacted the animal clinic.

A customer of the clinic told police she mailed a check to the clinic in the amount of $260.95. The check later cleared her account made out to Orange in the amount of $2,260.95. Bank records showed the check was cashed remotely and not in person at Oklahoma ’s Credit Union. Bond is endorsed at $25,000. Anyone with information on Orange’s location is urged to call law enforcement.
