Kay County deputies arrest Georgia man after animals found in Tonkawa storage unit

TONKAWA — At 5:40 p.m. Saturday, Tonkawa police contacted the Kay County Sheriff’s Department and reported that they received a report of a dog locked in a storage unit at Williams Mini Storage, located in the 300 block of east North Ave.

A Tonkawa police officer responded and reported that it sounded like two dogs in the storage unit. The owner of the business was called. He arrived and cut the lock off of the unit. A deputy arrived and advised that two cats and a dog were rescued from the storage unit. The owner of the animals is identified as Paul Richard Nelson, 55, of Georgia. He was arrested by deputies and transported to the Kay County Detention Center on pending charges. The animals were taken to Tonkawa Animal Control.
