Woman convicted of child abuse

NEWKIRK —  Sarah Jean Bates, 32, Oklahoma City, entered a no contest plea this week in Kay County District Court to a felony charge of child abuse filed on March 22, 2019.

Bates is now convicted of giving birth to a child at Alliance Health in Ponca City on Oct. 24, 2018, who tested positive for THC. (see story)

Sentencing is deferred for two years as long as she complies with the terms of the plea deal that includes completing mental health treatment.
