Former Peckham Superintendent arrested and appears in court

NEWKIRK — Former Peckham Superintendent Gary Young made his initial appearance in Kay County District Court today on two charges of lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16; Cause and or injury to sex abuse to a child; cause permit injury to a child, lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16 and a charge of blackmail.

Judge Jennifer Brock, set bond at $50,000 and ordered Young to house arrest with an ankle monitor.  He can only leave his house for medical appointments, religious services, and meetings with counsel. He is restricted from entering the township of Peckham and must submit to daily home alcohol monitoring.

In August Young’s teaching certificate was suspended by the State Board of Education. (see story)

Brock also ordered that he have no contact with the alleged victims, Peckham School Staff members or any listed witnesses in the case. A second court date is set for Feb. 13.
