Sentencing deferred in domestic assault case

NEWKIRK — Alex Laranze Callegan, 21, Ponca City, waived his right to a preliminary hearing and entered a no contest plea in Kay County District Court to a felony count of domestic assault and battery by strangulation and a misdemeanor count of domestic assault and battery against a pregnant woman.

He was charged with the offenses on July 30, 2019. (See story)

Sentencing is deferred for three years on the conditions that he follow guidelines that include serving 30 days in the county jail and complete 52 weeks of domestic violence treatment. He is scheduled for review on Dec. 12.
