Former Ponca City resident held on murder charge in Wichita
January 14, 2021 | Courts|PoliceWICHITA, Kan. — Former Ponca City resident Jason Allen Payne, 39, is being held in the Sedgwick County Jail on a first degree murder charge.
In a press release issued by Wichita Police, officials report that officers responded to a 911 call received at 5:40 a.m. in which the caller reported a man lying face down in the middle of the street at 13th and Oliver.

Officers reportedly found Payne in need of medical help. He was transported to a hospital where he was treated and released.
During the investigation police became aware of another man possibly injured at a home in the 900 block of N. Oliver. Officers responded to the home and reportedly found a deceased male subject.

Police have not released the name of the victim but report that they believe the male is related to Payne and that they believe a physical disturbance occurred at the home.
Payne’s criminal history in Kay County includes: possession of stolen vehicle; Obtaining cash by bogus check; Furnishing alcohol to a minor; DUI, domestic abuse, and contributing to the delinquency of minors. A bench warrant for Payne was issued by the Kay County District Court on Jan. 12 for failure to appear.
