NEWKIRK — A warrant is issued for Brandon Anthony Smith, 35, Ponca City, by the Kay County District Court.
Smith is charged with two felony counts of child abuse filed on July 10.
Ponca City police report in the affidavit that Smith is accused of hitting two children in the eye, one with a belt buckle. Police report one of the children claims to have been swatted with a belt on the wrist, causing a bruise on the wrist and was hit in the eye. The child’s eye reportedly was swollen for a week.
A second child told police he was hit in the eye with a belt buckle, which reportedly cut the child’s eye. The child reportedly missed a week of school because of the injury and told police he was instructed to tell people he had been home with the flu and that he had slipped and fell and hit a table in the back yard.
Sgt. Manny Lara reports the child still had a L shaped scar healing on his right temple. Sgt. Shane Pruett reports the children were examined at a clinic in Perry and that both reportedly had bruising on the buttocks and one child had bruising on the left leg.
Bond for Smith is endorsed at $50,000. Anyone with information on his location is urged to call police.
